About the Event
This talk gives a general introduction to the sculptures of Louise Bourgeois, Eva Hesse and Alice Adams in relation to The Courtauld exhibition ‘Abstract Erotic’, which features their work. We will develop an understanding of the artists’ historical context, a period of great social change: just before second-wave feminism, at the height of psychoanalysis and major changes to abstract art. We will explore how their innovative processes of sculpture visualised their volatile times, creating new conversations about the intimate fragility of human bodies with humour and occasional horror.
