About the Event
The city of Amsterdam originated as a settlement near a dam in the river Amstel, creating a natural harbour for trade which had a chance to really take off once the Spanish occupied Antwerp. What followed was a Golden Age for the Dutch and the city of Amsterdam, with extraordinary economic growth and opportunities in trade and finance. Many learned and talented immigrants also discovered liberal Amsterdam, creating unprecedented growth in the arts and sciences.
