About the Event
Controlled by the Normans, Sicily and its capital Palermo became a showcase for Europe where different traditions lived together peacefully. This cultural syncretism combined Islamic, Byzantine and Romanesque artistic elements, with the aim of displaying multiculturalism as an exhibition of power.
Delivered by Chiara de Nicolais, assistant curator at the Middle East department at the Victoria & Albert Museum
