About the Event
Drawing on his social realist style, Ilya Efimovich Repin(1844-1930) highlights the different social strata within this orthodox society in Kursk (a mixed Russian-Ukrainian region). Eventhough the people in this procession seem to come together for the same common goal (the Easter Procession) their individual roles within the group makes it abundantly clear how they are being perceived.
